Breaking Free: My Personal Journey with Ancestral Healing in Australia
For over 30 years, I lived the life I thought I wanted—until I realised it wasn’t mine. It was the life my parents had envisioned for me, shaped by cultural and religious expectations. The turning point came when I began to feel a persistent dissatisfaction. Something was off. That’s when I started asking deeper questions—and the path to ancestral healing unfolded.
Walking away from the religion I was raised in was one of my first major acts of self-liberation. It wasn’t easy. When I shared my truth with my parents, it was met with silence and subtle disapproval. Over the next few years, we avoided the topic, but the tension remained.
Things came to a head when I announced I wouldn’t be getting married in a church. That one decision reopened every suppressed fear and expectation within my family system. I was heartbroken and torn between staying true to myself and living up to the obligations that had shaped me for so long.
It was around this time I attended the Give Back Take Back (GBTB) retreat with One Tribe Healing in NSW. The purpose? To explore and release the subconscious beliefs we inherit from parents, ancestors, and culture—something I now know is the heart of ancestral healing.
The retreat was intense. For three full days, I confronted deep emotional wounds—beliefs about control, identity, worthiness, and fear that had been passed down and stored in my body. Through ceremony, movement, and energy healing, I began to release the layers I had unknowingly carried since childhood.
I came face to face with the parts of myself that had mirrored my parents—especially the controlling patterns I had unconsciously repeated in my own relationship. That realisation hurt… but it also liberated me.
A week later, I shared the news of my pregnancy with my parents. Their reaction was unemotional, just as I had expected. But something had shifted in me. I was no longer attached to their response. I had accepted them as they were—and I had finally chosen myself.
This is the power of ancestral healing in Australia. It’s not about blaming our parents or our lineage. It’s about honouring our path, releasing inherited trauma, and choosing freedom. For me, it means breaking the cycle so that my child has the space to just be who they are—without the weight of generations past.
If you feel stuck in patterns that aren’t yours… if you’re trying to live a life that doesn’t feel authentic… ancestral healing might be the next step for you. It changed my life. And it might just change yours too.
