How the Sphenoid Bone Impacts Emotional Healing and Your Energy Body
The Sphenoid Bone and Emotional Healing: What Your Body May Be Trying to Tell You
Over the past month, I’ve been diving deeper into the anatomy of the sphenoid bone and the spheno-basilar junction (SBJ) as part of my continued studies in biodynamic craniosacral therapy. What I’ve uncovered continues to affirm the deep connection between our physical structures and our emotional, mental, and energetic health.
The sphenoid bone is a butterfly-shaped bone nestled deep within your skull. While you can’t touch it directly, you can feel parts of it near your temples. It meets the occipital bone (at the base of your skull) at the spheno-basilar junction, a powerful cranial meeting point with far-reaching effects.
Why is this important? Because the sphenoid touches every other cranial bone. If there’s tension or trauma here, it can affect everything—from how your jaw moves to how well your hormones regulate, even your perception of reality.
Anatomy Meets Energy: The Seat of the Third Eye
Within the sella turcica (the “Turkish saddle” of the sphenoid) rests your pituitary gland—the master gland that regulates most of your hormones. Energetically, this area is deeply significant. Many spiritual traditions link the pituitary to the third eye, or inner vision.
When the sphenoid bone is imbalanced, it can influence:
-
Hormonal health
-
Clarity of thought
-
Emotional stability
-
Energetic perception
So if you’re struggling with headaches, feeling emotionally off, or disconnected from your intuition, the issue might be deeper—literally.
What Can Go Wrong at the Spheno-Basilar Junction (SBJ)?
According to Hugh Milne in The Heart of Listening Vol. 2, certain trauma patterns in the SBJ can present as:
-
Dull headaches, sinusitis, lower back pain, and a struggle to go inward emotionally
-
Severe migraines and a tendency toward introversion or mysticism
-
Torsion patterns (linked to dyslexia, scoliosis, jaw issues) and feeling emotionally torn or indecisive
-
Even associations with depression, dissociation, and schizophrenic patterns
These aren’t just physical patterns—they reflect how the body remembers emotional or spiritual trauma, including unresolved birth experiences.
Why I Use Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
While I love energy healing, I find biodynamic craniosacral therapy offers something profoundly unique: it brings the esoteric into the physical. It helps ground emotional and spiritual healing in the body, addressing trauma at the root—whether physical, emotional, or energetic.
This therapy allows us to feel what the body is truly trying to say—to tune in to what’s been hidden or locked away. When the body is truly heard, healing becomes inevitable.
What Might Your SBJ Be Trying to Tell You?
Our bodies are always speaking to us—through symptoms, sensations, and even the shape of our bones. If you’ve been navigating emotional overwhelm, recurring headaches, or feeling like you can’t quite “see” your path forward, your sphenoid bone and emotional healing may be more connected than you think.
